We are now accepting applications for OUR 2025 ABC Conference Planning Committee. positions are open until filled - JUly 2024

Our 22nd Annual Afrikan Black Coalition Conference is being held on Friday, January 17, 2025 – Monday, January 20, 2025.

We’re looking for people who have: (1) The desire to advance the Afrikan Black Coalition’s mission to liberate all Afrikan people through leadership, community, and political development. (2) The passion to serve, work with others and work independently. (3) Have the ability to build sustainable relationships. (4) Have reliable communication skills. (5) Have the capacity to commit to at least 5-8 hours per month between May and January 2025

What is the commitment? The volunteer commitment will be from May 2024 thru January 2025. Committee Members will meet on a bi-weekly to weekly basis as the conference approaches.

General Commitment Schedule:

  • June-August: Monthly/Bi-Weekly

  • September-December: Bi-Weekly/Weekly

  • January: Weekly

  • Week of Conference: Daily

  • Post-Conference Meetings: 2 meetings during the same week of Day of Service/MLK Day

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at host campus

  • Must have the capacity to commit to at least 5-8 hours per month between May and January 24, 2025

  • Must have the capacity to serve for the entire conference weekend (Friday-Monday)

  • Must Submit Application (Video Submission is Included)

  • Cannot be on the Executive Board of the Black Student Union

Planning Committee Positions and Descriptions:

  1. Campus Conference Chair: Responsible for managing Planning Committee Members with ABC Conference Chair, official student representative, responsible for ensuring conference funds, and the coordination of the student ABC Reps (MDC) and implementation of ABC organizational oversight.

  2. Vice Campus Conference Chair: Second in Command for Student Volunteers. Responsible for supporting Conference Chair and Campus Chair. Responsible for conference hospitality, and ensuring an overall positive conference experience for conference attendees. Responsible for coordinating Day of Service with ABC’s Black Community Programs Director.

  3. Logistics Chair: Responsible for ensuring all event day logistics are planned, coordinated, and implemented effectively. Responsible for developing, managing, updating master conference schedule.

  4. Speakers Chair: Responsible for communicating with all workshop and keynote speakers and ensure they all get a proper greeting and gratitude letters, conference program, and they get to their correct location on the day of the conference. (This position does not recruit Conference Speakers)

  5. Entertainment Chair: Responsible for recruiting and communicating of all conference talent and ensure they all get a proper greeting and gratitude letters, conference program, and they get to their correct location on the day of the conference.

  6. Communications Chair: Responsible for conference promo and marketing, and placing poster board or other movable signage throughout the conference facility. This Communications Chair is also responsible for developing a communications structure for delegation leaders. 

  7. Volunteers Chair: Responsible for training, recruiting, and managing volunteers.

  8. Facilities Chair: Responsible for the overall management of facilities contracting and logistics for ABC Conference programs and events, ensuring attention to quality and attendee needs and aligned with overall event requirements.

  9. Community Outreach & Service Chair: This position is designed for local community members and host campus’ alums with demonstrated commitment to our people to engage in conference planning. This position is responsible for Day of Service efforts and increase community efforts for the conference.
